A DIFFERENT KIND OF CONSULTATION GROUP: Explorations at the Intersection of Psychotherapy and the Arts. Group leader: Leslye Russell, MA, MFT. Engagement with the arts - literature, visual arts, movies, poetry and music--can deepen and enliven our clinical work because our capacity for aesthetic experience underwrites our ability to respond fully to our clients. Our affective responses open the intricate pathways to our patients and our own associations and enlarge our use of self as psychotherapists and supervisors. This group draws on many theorists, for example, Winnicott on transitional objects and playing, Meltzer on the aesthetic conflict, and Bollas on transformational objects and free association. 24 CE units are available for MFTs, LCSWs, and Ph.Ds. The group will meet in my Berkeley office on Monday afternoons for 16 meetings starting in October from 3:30pm - 5pm. The fee for the group is $50 per meeting or $800 total. I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in Berkeley and a faculty member and supervisor at The Psychotherapy Institute, Fellow of the International Psychotherapy Institute, Washington, DC, adjunct faculty at Sierra Institute for Contemporary Gestalt Therapy, a member of NCSPP. I have lectured and written widely on the use of the arts and psychotherapy. For more information about the group, or to sign up, please call (510) 849-4417 or email me at lesruslar@sbcglobal.net.
