4-Week Course: TRULY, MADLY, DEEPLY: Making Connection in the Clinical Hour Instructor: Reyna Cowan, LCSW CE: 6 CE Credits Location: St. Johns Presbyterian Church, 2727 College Avenue, Berkeley Date: Wednesdays, April 14, 21, 28, May 5, 2010 Time: 7:30 p.m. 9:00 p.m. Fees: $90 - $195 * Course Description Often we are taught to hone our analytic skills to make the perfect interpretation that captures the experience of the patient in the room. While the intervention expresses one aspect of the clinical encounter, it can miss one of the most important and challenging elements of a session being in close psychic contact with the patient. Relying on intuition, a willingness to enter the patients inner world, and comfort with your own countertransference experience allows you to traverse new territories with your patients. Utilizing the thinking of Anzieu, Bion, Houzel, Milner, Ogden and Winnicott, the class will develop a framework to think about making connection with the patient. We will use the class participants clinical work with children and adults to further develop the skills to reach patients at a deeper level. Course Objectives
