The theory is extremely useful in thinking systematically about cases, especially at those moments when successful interaction around themes that have emerged may be critical to the progress of therapy. Participants will learn to develop CMT case formulations by identifying pathogenic beliefs and the patient's unconscious plan for therapy from the early sessions of treatment. Course Objectives Participants will learn to apply Control Mastery Theory and principles to clinical cases. Participants will learn to develop CMT case formulations by identifying: 1) pathogenic beliefs 2) the patient's unconscious testing of the therapist and 3) the patient's unconscious plan for therapy. Participants will understand the elements of personal style the therapist brings to the therapeutic relationship that promote the safety necessary for development. About Mr. Cristofalo Joseph Cristofalo, MFT, is a faculty member of The Psychotherapy Institute of Berkeley. He has supervised interns and post-docs in the Bay Area and Europe. He is a member of the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group, and his paper on CMT and Group Therapy can be found at www.controlmastery.org. He has been in private practice in Oakland and Lafayette for twenty-eight years, seeing individuals, couples, families and adolescents. Upon completion of a conference evaluation form, a certificate will be issued. This serves as documentation of attendance for all participants. LCSWs/MFTs: These courses meet the requirements for CE credits for LCSWs and MFTs through the BBS. (Provider #PCE 508). Psychologists: Division 39 is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Division 39 maintains responsibility for these programs and their content. Target Audience & Instructional Level All licensed mental health professionals, residents, interns, and graduate students in training, as well as members of the lay public who have an interest in psychoanalytic psychology. This is an intermediate level course. Cancellation & Refund Policies Enrollees who cancel at least seven days prior to the workshop date or the first class of a course with multiple meetings will receive a refund minus a $35 administrative charge. No refunds will be allowed after this time. THERE WILL BE A $25 BANK CHARGE AND AN ADDITIONAL $15 ADMINISTRATIVE CHARGE ON ALL RETURNED CHECKS.
