Course:
Playing with Families

Peter Carnochan, Ph.D.
3 CE Credits
PINC Library, 2252 Fillmore St., San Francisco
Saturday, November 7, 2009
9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
$50 - $110*

Course Overview
In our work with children, we expect to have collateral meetings with parents. This is critical for developing a strong alliance with the family and for helping the parents make adjustments in their response to the child. At times, however, this split between the play therapy and the parent sessions can make it difficult to work more directly on the relationships within the family. In this class we will look at how to invite parents into play therapy sessions so they can better understand the work and the difficulties within the family can be accessed more immediately. Through a mixture of case material and discussion we will consider how to manage these sessions while protecting the frame of the child's individual therapy.

Course Objectives
  • The participants will gain an understanding of how to bring parent's into play therapy sessions.
  • The participants will expand their ability to work with families of young children.
