Fall Movie Matinee:
The Pre-licensed Clinicians Committee invites
the entire NCSPP membership to a screening of

Grey Gardens (1975)
with guest speaker Drew Tillotson, Psy.D.

The Variety Preview Room, 582 Market Street, San Francisco
Sunday, October 11, 2009
Sunday matinee 2:00
$12 (registration will be accepted at the door)

Grey Gardens, the 1975 cinéma vérité classic by Albert and David Maysles, depicts two reclusive women living in a decrepit mansion in East Hampton, New York for decades with limited funds, resulting in squalor and almost total isolation. Edith "Big Edie" Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale were the aunt and first cousin of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, and both once a part of high society in New York City. At the heart of the documentary is a love story: the mother and daughter fiercely locked in a struggle with the past and the present. Little Edie mourns her attempts to leave her embittered mother and to have a mind of her own. The camera intimately captures their obsession with a constant recirculation of the past mixed with pathos, humor and regret. Of interest to psychoanalytic folks are the intensely dependent relationship between mother and daughter, Little Edie's intelligence and her bizarre and hysterical idiosyncratic manic defenses. Throughout the film, Little Edie reviews her life and struggles to understand her complex relationship with her mother and distant father. Clinicians of all levels will gather to view and discuss this psychologically stimulating film. (Of Note: HBO recently aired their new film “Grey Gardens” with Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange – a modern retelling, showing more of the Beale’s background and history.)

This informal event will be a great way to connect with your clinical peers in a relaxed yet stimulating setting. All are welcome at this event, including current NCSPP members, prospective members, friends, partners, colleagues, and more.
