WELCOME TO IMPULSE, THE ELECTRONIC MONTHLY NEWSLETTER BY NCSPP

This month's issue of IMPULSE brings a historic announcement from Dr. Bill Glover of the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute & Society, which will soon become the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. We also feature a rich array of learning opportunities for your consideration.
We hope you enjoy this month's issue, and we hope you'll join NCSPP to assist us in furthering the community that belongs to us all.

PIECE OF MIND: INTRODUCING THE SAN FRANCISCO CENTER FOR PSYCHOANALYSIS

On July 1 the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute & Society and its supporting organization, the San Francisco Foundation for Psychoanalysis, will merge and become the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. SFPI&S has a long tradition of training psychoanalysts in the Bay Area and has evolved into a theoretically pluralistic institute advancing contemporary psychoanalysis. Over the years our mission has expanded beyond psychoanalytic training to include extended education programs for the mental health community, a broad variety of programs for the general public and selected service efforts such as our acclaimed Child Development Program and its preschool programs in low-income San Francisco communities.
Our recent strategic plan concluded with a proposal to restructure the organization to keep pace with its changing identity. The result is the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis, key features of which include a community majority on the board of trustees, an improved management structure and revised procedures for appointing training analysts. The goal of these changes is to promote the relevance and recognition of psychoanalysis in the broader community, offer psychoanalytic education, and sponsor research and applied psychoanalysis while continuing our tradition of excellence in training psychoanalysts.
We will soon be vacating our building at 2420 Sutter for temporary quarters to allow for construction of a new home for the Center. We are beginning a capital campaign to make our new professional home a state-of-the-art facility including classrooms, the Erik Erickson Library and an auditorium with video conferencing capabilities.
Please look for announcements of Center activities and remember that the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis is the evolution of SFPI&S.
