How about meeting and networking with others having this same interest? If so, read on! There is an organization with this educational focus that has been providing seminars and case conferences in the Sacramento region for five years: The Sacramento Valley Education Committee (SVEC) of the Northern California Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology (NCSPP). Don't let the word "psychoanalytic" fool you. The members and participants come from diverse theoretical backgrounds. NCSPP, one 26 member chapters of Division 39 of the American Psychological Association, is founded on the principle of a diverse and multidisciplinary approach to studying contemporary psychoanalytic psychotherapy and research. As the work of psychotherapy can often be lonely and isolating, SVEC is equally committed to fostering the development of an ongoing community for the practitioners to share ideas and experiences, to receive support and stimulation, and to network. Each SVEC event allows time, over coffee, tea or lunch, for meeting and getting to know new people as well as visiting with friends and colleagues. The seminars and small case conferences are designed to be interactive and supportive in order to allow the group to participate in a collaborative dialogue both with the presenter and each other. Continuing education credits are offered to physicians, social workers, marriage and family therapists and psychologists. Medical residents, interns and students are encouraged to attend. This year, SVEC is reaching out to practiitioners in the Sacramento region. This is a particularly exciting time to be involved with NCSPP and the significant variety of thoughtful and creative program offered not only in Sacramento but in the San Francisco Bay area as well.
